Information on Establishment of Market Committee
The Katol Agricultural Produce Market Committee was established under the notification No. 1242-1068-10 dated 29 July 1940 of the then Central Provinces and Varad State Government and at that time the purchase and sale of only cotton agricultural produce was regulated through this market committee.
After that, the notification No. C.O.P.- 56 Katol dated 08 July 1960 of the Hon'ble Commissioner Nagpur Division Nagpur, this market committee started being called as Agricultural Produce Market Committee instead of Cotton Market Committee and the area of the market committee was limited to 4 miles of the market premises. After that, the jurisdiction of the said market committee was extended to the jurisdiction of Katol Panchayat Samiti and the purchase and sale of the following agricultural produce was regulated in this area. Such as cotton, jowar, wheat, tur, gram, urad, moong, and other grains as well as cattle, goats, sheep, and oranges.

Katol Agricultural Produce Market Committee was established on 29 July 1940 and along with this Shri. Manikraoji Raut got the honor of becoming the first Chairman of this Market Committee. After this Shri. Laxminarayanji Rathi served as the Chairman from 1941 to 1952. From 1952 to 1955 Shri. Sudevji Vyas served as the Chairman of this Market Committee. After that Shri. Laxminarayanji Rathi again served as the Chairman of the Market Committee from 1955 to 1960. After this Shri. Kasturchandji Chandak successfully held the post of Chairman for 11 consecutive years from 1960 to 1971. On 23 September 1971, the post of Chairman of this Market Committee was given to the Maharshi of this area, Shri. Keshavraoji Dehankar (Dada) accepted. Who not only nurtured the banyan tree of the Agricultural Products Market Committee planted by the late Shri. Manikraoji Raut but also made it flourish. His successful tenure as Chairman continued till November 11, 1993. This tenure of 22 years remained the longest tenure in the history of Katol Agricultural Products Market Committee. After this, the leadership of this Market Committee went to Shri. Tarachandji Gotamare who accepted the post of Chairman of this Market Committee on November 12, 1993. He also took many sound decisions in the interest of this Market Committee during his tenure. He held the post of Chairman of this Market Committee till January 21, 1999. In the subsequent elections, Shri. Under the leadership of Keshavraoji Dehankar, his group came to power again. He assumed the post of Chairman on 22 January 1999. His successful tenure continued till 23 December 2004. After that, from 24 December 2004 to 20 October 2011, the Market Committee was ruled by government administrators. During this period, the Market Committee could not do any constructive work or take any decision that was beneficial to the farmers. On 21 October 2011, the Administrative Board came to power under the skillful leadership of Mr. Bapuravji Satpute. In which Mr. Bapuravji Satpute was the Chief Administrator. During his leadership, the construction of two grain auction sheds in the main market premises of the Market Committee started with the consent of Maharashtra State Agricultural Marketing Board, Pune. Mr. Bapuravji Satpute's tenure continued till 21 July 2012. In the elections of the Agricultural Produce Market Committee held in the year 2012, a new board of directors came to power. This board of directors started its term on 22 July 2012. Shri. Dineshji Thackeray assumed the leadership of this board of directors. After that, Shri. Tarakeshwar Mahadev Shelke assumed the charge of the post of Chairman of the Agricultural Produce Market Committee from 2014 till 2021.
The election of the Market Committee was held in October 2021. In this election, the Board of Directors came to power under the skillful leadership of Hon. Shri. Charansinghji Thakur. This Board of Directors started its term on October 25, 2021. Hon. Shri. Charansinghji Thakur started successfully holding the post of Chairman of the Market Committee on the basis of his experience. He took the Katol Market Committee on the path of progress and made it a leading market committee. Financial assistance is being provided to the families of farmers who committed suicide in Katol taluka and financial assistance is being provided to them if their cows, buffaloes, bulls die due to accidents or snake bites. Also, every year, the important annual festival of farmers is celebrated in this committee, in which attractive prizes are given to the farmers. The Market Committee management is working frugally and the decisions taken in the interest of the farmers are truly commendable. It is the only market committee in India to start many farmer-friendly initiatives in the market committee.
